"Minions are small, yellow, cylinder-shaped, genetically humanized kernels that have one or two eyes and are one of the most notable characters in the film. There are approximately 899 minions that Gru himself genetically modified. But there are only a bunch of them with noticeable traits.  (see banner on the right of the page)

I, myself is a fan of these adorable minions -- especially when they murmur certain Filipino phrases.
